Why This Publication Exists

There is a significant volume of material available on the subject of everyday nutrition. Most of it belongs to one of two registers: the instructive-specialist, which assumes the reader has a specific condition requiring management; or the commercial-aspirational, which regards food as a mechanism for transformation. Neither register, in the observation of this publication's editors, is particularly well-suited to the ordinary British person managing an ordinary week of eating.

Dranvelo Letters occupies a third register: analytical-editorial. Articles are written in the tradition of long-form science journalism, without the presuppositions of either specialist practice or lifestyle marketing. The subject is the ordinary week — its eating patterns, its movement, its rhythms of preparation and consumption — observed with the same careful attention that good journalism applies to any other complex subject.

The publication is not affiliated with any food producer, supplement manufacturer, or wellness programme. Its editorial decisions are made independently, with reference only to published research and the field observations of its contributing writers.
